Stop Hacking and Start Sharpening

I attended The Kbsa’s annual conference last week at The Belfry Hotel near Birmingham.

It was an excellent event and, in my view, their best yet.

Once again, some of the most consistently successful kitchen retailers in the UK were in attendance.

It was a bit different to how it’s historically been.

For the second year running, the big cheeses had dropped the velvet rope and changed the rules so non-members could purchase a ticket and come along.

Here’s the kicker, though – there are over 3,000 independent KBB retailers in the UK that could benefit from this event … but only 5% were attendees.

What's holding them back? Too busy ploughing their furrows to stop and glean some insight from others in the industry? From others who are challenged by the same issues presented throughout 2023.

It's a bit like that story about the tree cutter - so busy hacking away at the forest that he never stops to sharpen his axe. Eventually, he's just giving the trees an ineffective massage.

Don’t be that guy!

This time of the year has that New Year feel, doesn’t it? Except without the hangover.

I was out of the office with The Kbsa last week. I was out of the office two days this week at one of the UK’s leading marketing conventions.

Yes, that all put some pressure on me to complete the day-to-day work. But it’s been an excellent time to think, read, listen … sharpen my axe.

I’m back in the saddle now, though, and raring to go. My team and I are fired up and excited to take our clients’ marketing results to the next level with many of the marketing tools now available.

Here’s the million-dollar question: What’s YOUR game plan for 2024?

I've lost count of how often I've heard people say to me, "I KNOW I need external help with my marketing, and it does make sense to have someone who knows the kitchen industry."

If that sounds like you, maybe it’s time to consider what you’re doing to set yourself up for success next year.

If you start the ball rolling now, by the time New Year comes around for real, you’ll have traction and could even capitalise on the spike in new kitchen enquiries that’ll be sure to happen again this January.

The ball's in your court.

So, what are you doing to set yourself up for success? Because let's face it - the best time to plant a tree has long gone, but the second-best time? Well, that's right now.

Will you do something different, or are you too busy hacking away to sharpen your axe?
