Grit

We’re a month into 2023, and I’ve now got a decent fist of how the year’s started for KBB businesses.

If you had a poor autumn, struggling to sell kitchens, there’s a fair chance that’s still the case in 2023.

If you had a somewhat buoyant autumn, you’ve probably had a pretty good January, at least from an enquiries perspective. Albeit, you’re probably having to battle a bit harder to get people over the line, though.

(In and amongst that, there may be some regional variations.)

But, for the most part, the year you’re having so far is likely reflective of your performance over the preceding six months.

That ain’t gonna change in the rest of this year – you’ll get out what you put in.

Forget the ‘cost of living crisis’.

Forget macroeconomics (and Trussonomics).

Forget oil price. Forget Putin.

Not because those things aren’t important. But, because for you, right here, right now, they’re not helpful.

You can only control what you can control. Sure, the media frenzy around inflation and the mini-budget didn’t help us on a macro level.

On a micro level though, it’s easy to use those things as an excuse. However, millions of pounds are still being spent on new kitchens up and down the country.

There’ll be a bunch of excuses you can use throughout the rest of this year, too, should you choose to do so.

So, however your 2023 has started, I want to pose this question to you today:

Are you rolling up your sleeves and doing everything you can to make a success of this year? Or are you making excuses, hunkering down, and hoping things will improve?

And if the existence of your business depended on it, what would you do differently?

It’s about grit. And it’s extraordinary how much we can find of it when we dig deep.

Your 2023 will be dictated by what you do in the next few weeks. There’s still time to shape it, still time to do more, be more and achieve more.

Lean in, you’ve got this.
